Yesterday I brought my orange tabby, Rhubarb, to a church right around the corner from where I live for a Blessing of the Animals service. I was expecting maybe just a priest on the lawn blessing the animals outside, but it was an indoor thing. Rhubarb walks on a leash just about every day, so he was quite content to walk in and look around. There were about a dozen dogs, 5-6 cats, a parrot and a good sized tortoise. Anyway, he was pretty well behaved and staked out a spot in the front an the side where he could keep an eye on all the other animals. He was very intrigued by the tortoise that was wantering around the altar.
We left the service and I was proud of what a good boy he was. Heading home, he wanted to go into this enclosed courtyard where I let him run around and chase stuff. I had people at my apartment, so I wanted to go straight home. he tugged and pulled and jumped up on the ledge where he could jump into the courtyard, but I was still holding the leash. He started to convulse, like he couldn't breathe. I was concerned that his pulling had tightened the harness around his neck and I quickly undid the harness to free up anything that was binding him. He recovered in about 5 seconds and proceeded to bound into the bushes unencumbered by a harness or leash.
About 2 minutes later, when I had walked around to try to catch him, he had already caught a sparrow and was torturing the poor thing.
I guess he didn't really want a blessing after all.

they just cant help it.
