"Say Hi!"

Clever Cats Share And Teach Others How To Wave

"Say Hi!"

Postby kat505hi » Mon Feb 15, 2010 3:07 am

Ed has been working on a new trick. I'm capturing it, but she's figured what makes me click the clicker (yes, I clicker trained her). She's actually much faster and more creative when it comes to offereing behaviors during a training session than the dog is. My dog knows tons of tricks, but I taught her through luring. I cannot lure Ed because she attacks the hand with food in it! Soon she'll know more than the dog. lol

Anyway, I noticed there were no posts in this thread, so I thought I'd share that my newest trick to teach Ed is "say hi" where she waves her paw. She's been offering me her left paw, then I click, then she waves the right while I give her the treat. I'm curious how this will end up as a behavior in the end. I have no put the cue on the behavior yet, because I am still working on capturing it (we've only done about 3 sessions, one with company and they were very impressed by her).

any comments or questions (I do not have a video camera, so no video of her, sorry...)

I have a clicker-savvy cat. which means, if I don't click it means she didnt do what I wanted and to try something else.

She was offering a beg position and I wasnt rewarding her for it, so she started waving. I clicked that and she did it again... so we kept going.

The way clicker training works is always in this order: cue->behavior->click->reward. for offered behaviors, you wait until she does the behavior you want, then click and reward.
